Everlasting Burnt Gum, up close.
Soot first, then rust and plum. Everlasting Burnt Gum, a matt porcelain rectangle of 70 x 280 mm, mixes red-brown and plum-grey pieces through the black, so a laid run looks like old, smoke-darkened brick.
Made in Italy, in 9 mm porcelain. Run it in a half-bond with Mapei Volcano Sand and the grout line sinks into the dark, so the colour mix does the work. Pair it with pale plaster or oak for contrast.

Laying notes
Half offset (running bond) is the classic. A one-third offset suits longer tiles and softer finishes, a straight stack reads modern, and a vertical stack lifts the eye. A contrasting grout makes herringbone graphic.
